- For first-time awards, students must:
- be Texas residents;
- enroll at least 1/2 time in a public 2-year institution*;
- show financial need;
- Expected Family Contribution less than or equal to $2000; and
- have not been convicted of a felony or a crime involving a controlled
substance.
- * Includes public community colleges, technical colleges and state
colleges

- Students must:
- Meet all the requirements for a first-time award
- Maintain Academic Progress
- At end of the first year, meet
the institution’s academic requirements;
- In remaining years:
- maintain a 2.5 overall grade point average and complete 75% of the
hours attempted in the prior year of college.

- When the FIRST of the following occurs:
- Student acquires associate’s degree;
- Student receives TEOG awards for 75 hours; or
- Student receives TEOG for four years.

- Continuation awards have priority over first-time awards. (Continuation awards are funded first;
left-over funds are used for first-time awards.)
- Within first-time awards, priority is on the neediest students.

- Awards equal:
- The greater of actual tuition and fees or statewide average tuition*
& fees.
- If actual tuition & fees is less than the statewide average, the
student gets excess to cover other education expenses.
- * in-district tuition and fees at community colleges.

- For attending a community college:
- $865 per semester or $1,730 per year
- For attending a technical college:
- $1,325 per semester or $2,650 per year
- For attending a state college:
- $2,585 per semester or $5,170 per year
